    ICT Minister Chairs HCC Meeting to Monitor Ransomware Attacks Situation

    Cairo, 15 May 2017
    The High Council for Cyber-Security (HCC) has held a meeting, chaired by the ICT Minister Yasser ElKady and HCC Head, to follow up on the latest updates of the Ransomware cyber-attack which has hit countries worldwide. The Council discussed preparations required for confronting the current attacks and any similar ones in the future to ensure that the stateís vital sectors are protected, and the role of the Egyptian Computer Emergency Response Team (EG-CERT) in confronting these attacks, in coordination and cooperation with vital sectors.

    The HCC Executive Office presented a report highlighting coordination with representatives of vital sectors and security authorities to address these attacks and any repercussions. During the meeting, discussions tackled preparations required for confronting the second wave of cyber-attacks and other electronic threats, in addition to taking all necessary measures to address gaps in systems and software.

    HCC discussed the proposal of the national cybersecurity strategy prepared by its Executive Office to be submitted to the Cabinet for approval, in line with the Prime Minister's decree on commissioning HCC to prepare the strategy. The High Council for Cyber-Security (HCC) reports to the Cabinet, and consists of representatives of the stateís sovereign authorities and vital sectors.
