    ICT Minister Meets Orange Officials in France, Discusses Promoting Cooperation

    France, 18 July 2017

    The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Yasser ElKady—within his two-day visit to Paris, France during July 17-18— met with the officials of Orange Group, including Orange Deputy Chief Executive Officer in charge of Operations in Africa and the Middle East (MEA) Bruno Mettling, and CEO of Orange Egypt Jean Marc Harion. The ICT Minister was received by Egypt’s Ambassador to France Ihab Badawi, where the meeting discussed promoting partnership opportunities with Orange.

    The meetings also discussed cooperation in areas of supporting technological innovation and entrepreneurship at the national level, where Orange showcased its latest technologies in the field of communications networks and digital inclusion, in addition to the technologies needed to establish and manage smart cities.

    The two parties have agreed to establish a customer service center in Assiut technology park to serve Oranges’ customers worldwide. In line with Orange Group's interest in supporting startups to help innovators transform their ideas into reality, realizing economic and tangible returns, they agreed on implementing an initiative that aims to support small enterprises and startups in Egypt, especially those specialized in innovation and creation areas.

    During his meetings, ElKady ascertained that Egypt is implementing a series of initiatives to implant and disseminate technology nationwide and create a generation of ICT innovators to serve the future needs of digital services and applications, supporting the state's policy towards digital transformation and driving the digital and knowledge economy in Egypt. The ICT Minister also showcased the Egyptian initiative of designing and manufacturing electronics, stating that Egypt has already started to set up electronics factories in the technology parks.

    ElKady’s also visited Orange’s laboratories, including the research and development sector, holding several meetings with the officials in charge of funding initiatives to study the most appropriate business models for Egyptian youth. Orange has several programs that support start-ups and innovators to turn their ideas into reality, realizing economic and tangible returns.

    In the Meanwhile, the ICT Minister attended a presentation on Orange’s expertise in several services, including mobile e-commerce and money transfer. The company's officials also showcased Orange achievements in implementing projects for smart cities and communities, including initiatives on health, telemedicine, transportation, citizen services, tourism, buildings and facilities management using integrated technology solutions. The solutions include monitoring, control and remote management systems, providing information and data instantaneously, which improve performance efficiency, maximize the use of available resources and support decision making for executive officials.

    ElKady, also, met with Valeo Group Corporate Vice-President Jean-Luc di Paola-Galloni, discussing expanding the company's investments and business in Egypt. Valeo VP stated that Cairo’s center is the company's most important research and development center in the world. Valeo is specialized in designing and developing integrated software related to electric vehicle parts.
