    ICT Minister Inspects Progress in Borg Al-Arab Technology Park

    Alexandria, 27 July 2017

    - The ICT Minister inspects the activities of supporting innovators and entrepreneurs in the new technology park of Borg Al-Arab in Alexandria,  witnessing signing an agreement between Silicon Waha and Egypt Japan University of Science and Technology (EJUST)
    - The ICT Minister witnesses signing an agreement between the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) and Silicon Waha to establish two industrial clusters and electronics quality certification centers
    ICT Minister Inspects Progress in Borg Al-Arab Technology Park.


    The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Yasser ElKady inspected, today, the work progress in the new technology park of Borg Al-Arab in Alexandria, where he discussed, with the sector officials, the operational works and the activities of supporting innovators and entrepreneurs and providing specialized training programs to qualify youth and university graduates in the ICT fields.

    The ICT Minister was accompanied by ITIDA CEO Asmaa Hosni, the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) Acting Executive President Mustafa Abdul Wahid, Telecom Egypt (TE) CEO and Managing Director Ahmed El Beheiry, Silicon Waha Chairman Ahmed El-Sobky, and a number of Egypt Post officials and heads of ICT companies— representing the private sector— and EITESAL association.

    ElKady ascertained that the technology parks project is a national strategic one adopted by the State, with a view to implanting information technology nationwide and providing a suitable environment for local and international companies to invest and cooperate with scientific research centers and universities for improving the skills of young people. He added that Borg Al-Arab Technology Park is due to create 4,000 job opportunities for young people, pointing out that a cluster of big data centers will be established in Borg Al-Arab Technology Park.

    The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) has completed establishing two technology parks in Borg Al-Arab in Alexandria and New Assiut, inaugurated by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi on 27 November 2016, during the opening session of Cairo ICT 2016.

    ElKady witnessed the signing of an agreement between Silicon Waha0— an Egyptian joint stock company for developing technology parks— and Egypt Japan University of Science and Technology (EJUST), to establish an educational building for E-JUST in Borg Al-Arab Technology Park, on an area of 1000 m. 

    The agreement was signed by Silicon Waha Chairman Ahmed El-Sobky and E-JUST President Ahmed Al-Gohary.

    ElKady also witnessed the signing of an agreement between ITIDA and Silicon Waha , under which two industrial clusters and electronics quality certification centers will be established in the two technology parks in Sadat City and Beni Suef.

    The agreement was signed by ITIDA CEO Asmaa Hosni and Silicon Waha Chairman Ahmed El-Sobky.

    ElKady began his tour by visiting the training building in the Park, where he learnt about  the specialized training programs provided by Exceed, Akko and Sutherland to improve soft, linguistic and technological skills of employees and young people who are applying for training in the fields of technical support and outsourcing services. 

    In meeting with young people, ElKady urged young people to work hard to enhance their technology abilities and get distinct job opportunities. He also referred to the distinguished position that Egypt has in the outsourcing industry, Egypt's global competitiveness and the ability of its youth to provide IT services to the world through 16 languages.

    He also participated in one of the training workshops organized by the Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (TIEC), within Innov Egypt programs, and participated with the young people in an open discussion on the theme of the training workshop "Leadership Skills in Entrepreneurship".

     In addition, ElKady inspected the integrated technology center for citizens' services, which is a cultural advancement and a success story that provides distinguished services to citizens in accordance with the strategy of the state to provide high quality services. The Center provides developed governmental services in one station, including civil status services, consular documentation services, mortgage finance services, postal and financial services, pension and social security services. The citizens hailed the quality of services provided by the center in a civilized and organized manner.

    A number of 410 integrated technology centers for citizens' services are due to be established and disseminated throughout the country. The sector has completed establishing Al-Asmarat Center in Cairo, and other centers in the technology parks of Assiut and Borg Al-Arab and currently other centers are being established in the technology parks of Maadi, Sadat City and Beni Suef.

     He also met with the innovative youth who receive their training programs at the creativity and entrepreneurship cluster in Borg Al-Arab Technology Park, aiming at supporting innovation and creativity. He also explored the views of youth and invited them to participate and interact to maximize the benefits of the activities offered by the innovation cluster, in partnership with the private sector and civil society. The ICT Minister underlined the readiness of MCIT and its affiliates to provide the necessary support and the stimulating environment for developing the culture of creativity among young people.
     
    During his tour, ElKady inspected the activities of the Egyptian Olympic program, one of the outstanding programs to support creativity of school students, where Egypt won international awards.

    The ICT Minister concluded his tour by inspecting the new NTRA headquarters Borg Al-Arab Technology Park.
