    ICT Minister Meets MasterCard Regional Head

    Cairo, 3 August 2017

    The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Yasser ElKady has met with MasterCard-Division President for Middle East and North Africa Khalid Elgibali, where the meeting discussed enhancing cooperation means and developing partnerships to transform into the digital economy and benefit from the expertise of MasterCard— a leading company in financial inclusion solutions technology—through developing the digital infrastructure.

    The meeting discussed the future cooperation means to benefit from the big data analyzes that support decision makers and contribute to enhancing economic growth through the development of innovative digital services and the expansion of the governmental e-payment system. It aims to facilitate access to digital financial services, reduce their cost and provide e-payment innovative and secure solutions for the benefit of citizens and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), a matter which enables the completion of financial transactions through the e-payment system.

    MasterCard expressed its willingness to invest in the digital infrastructure in line with the process of developing the Egyptian economy, increasing the efficiency of government services provided to citizens and supporting the efforts of financial inclusion.

    A joint workshop will be held to discuss various technological solutions to serve the objectives of Egypt's strategy towards the digital economy. The key topic of the workshop is how to provide government subsidy services to citizens using smart cards that offer multiple privileges and ensure that the subsidy is easily delivered to those who deserve it.

    The World Bank Group (WBG) has selected Egypt as one of the model countries to participate in the Global Financial Inclusion Initiative, launched by the World Bank, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and the new Global Financial Inclusion Initiative of the Committee on Payments and Market Infrastructures (CPMI).
