Dr. Ahmed Nazif, Minister of Communications and Information Technology accompanied by Mr. Omar Abdel Akher, Chairman of the Federation of Non-Governmental Organizations, inaugurated another Information Technology Club (ITC) in Cairo. The Club is located within the Womenís Health Betterment Association. ITCs are found in 19 other branches of the Association, scattered over various governorates. The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) plans to help in establishing ITCs nationwide and reach the target of 300 Clubs by the end of 2001. The primary function of the clubs is to address young people, including children with a message on IT and its role in shaping the life and relationships of all peoples, and in promoting creativity and competitiveness among the new generations. In this endeavor MCIT collaborates closely with the Ministries of Youth, Higher Education, Culture, Education, and with NGOs, local governments and private-sector enterprises, in the creation of the ITCS and in the dissemination of IT culture among all segments of the society. At the end of the inauguration ceremony, Dr. Nazif and Mr. Abdel-Akher delivered the graduation diplomas to the first batch of the club trainees.
