Ministries of Information and Communications & IT Cooperate to Establish Information Technology Clubs

    Cairo, 21 July 2001
Celebrations marking the July 23 Revolution witnessed the opening of an Information Technology Club (ITC) in the El Salam City Information Complex. Mr. Safwat Al Sherif, Minister of Information, Dr. Ahmed Nazif Minister of Communications and Information Technology, and Dr. Abdel Rehim Shehata, Governor of Cairo inaugurated the new Club.* During the inauguration ceremony, a cooperation protocol was signed between the State Information Service and the Ministry of Communications and Information technology to establish 20 ITCs within the Information Complexes in the governorates of Egypt. These will add to the 14 ITCs that have already been created. Mr. Nabil Osman, Chairman of the State Information Service, Ministry of Information, and Dr. Ikram Fathy, Director of the Human Resources Programs at MCIT, signed the protocol. The primary function of the clubs, it is known, is to address the Egyptian society, including young people and children with a message on IT and its role in shaping the life and relationships of all peoples, and in promoting creativity and competitiveness among the new generations. In this endeavor MCIT collaborates closely with all Ministries, and with NGOs, local governments and private-sector enterprises, in the creation of the ITCs and in the dissemination of IT culture among all segments of the society.
