    Egypt and China sign a MOU For the development of the CIT Industry

    Cairo, 3 October 2002

    On the basis of friendship and mutual benefit, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology of Egypt and the Ministry of Information Industry of the People’s Republic of China signed today a memorandum of understanding aiming at the development of CIT industry in both countries.

    Dr. Ahmed Nazif, Minister of CIT and Mr. Wu Jichuan, Minister of Information Industry signed the Memorandum which attempts at the exchanging of information on the establishment of strategies and policies, the formulation of regulations and the regulation of the market in the area of CIT. Both ministries, encourage in the Memorandum the cooperation between enterprises to promote trade and investment in the construction and operation of telecommunications network infrastructure. Moreover, the memorandum supports the exchange information and data on subjects of common interest and establishes appropriate channels for information exchanges.>“Chinese companies will benefit from new growing markets in the region and we are putting our talent at their disposal,” said Minister Nazif. “We have common challenges for increasing the teledensity in rural areas, we will work together to meet those challenges.” asserted Minister Nazif.>“I am confident the Chinese companies operating now in Egypt find this experience successful.” The Chinese Minister emphasized, “The transparent relationship between both ministries is clear in technology transfer and human resources development.”

    The official delegation accompanied the Minister is composed of senior officials representing leading Chinese telecommunications companies such as Huawei and ZTE. Following the signing ceremony, officials from MCIT and leaders of the Egyptian telecom industry discussed with their counterparts the Chinese experience in the field of creating advanced technology zones; notably, China has 56 of those zones, and the transfer of technology and modern management techniques as well as increasing Chinese investments in Egypt.
