Economic databases and decision support services are transforming the operations of many key ministries and government enterprises. For example, the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MFTI) has been cooperating with MCIT and the Egyptian Public Authority for Standardization and Quality Control.
A database of standards specifications was established, with a backlog of data entries from Egyptian standards, drawing precedents, and quality control.
Part of the project was to develop portals so that MFTI can offer its services online and manage specifications more efficiently.
MFTI also had an interest in the residue system of the National Export Supervisory Authority where an information network was established to allow data flow between main data collection centers to compliment the Foreign Trade Data Warehouse project.
In a similar way, the Ministry of Supply and Domestic Trade developed a supply card automation system, using advanced Smart Card technologies to establish a beneficiary database of approximately 50 million individuals, and a retailer database of approximately 40,000.
