    Islamic Inscriptions

    The Project covers Islamic inscriptions that are found in a range of the most important historical monuments in Cairo. The project is carried out in collaboration with Dr Bernard O'Kane, Professor of Islamic Art and Architecture at the American University in Cairo and the American Research Center (ARCE).

    Achievements

    § A database was completed which included 3300 inscriptions related to 509 monuments, written on different materials such as stone, plaster, wood, and metal. The inscriptions are in many types of script including Kufic, Thuluth, and Naskh. The database includes over 11,000 images and 972 architectural drawings.
    § Issued an interactive DVD to make these inscriptions available for researchers.
