The United Nations Partnership on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNPRPD) was established in 2011 to support the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) at country level. UNPRPD joint programs in 39 countries, three regional, and eight global initiatives are improving the lives of people with disabilities.
The UNPRPD integrates institutional and operational mandates to facilitate inter-agency collaboration and joint programming on disability inclusive development.
In 2008, Egypt joined the CRPD, and in 2012, the National Council for Disability Affairs (NCDA) was established. In 2014, for the first time in Egypt, the Constitution included articles referring directly and indirectly to Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) as equal citizens with equal rights.
