Egypt, represented by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), will participate in the 19th Ordinary Session of the African Telecommunication Union (ATU) Administrative Council which will be held in Kampala, Uganda on April 4-6.

During the meeting, a number of key topics will be discussed to follow up on the Union's performance over the past year and agree on the future plan for the coming years.

Representatives of Member States of the Council will also choose the new ITU logo, which design has already been announced within a competition launched by the Union last year. Designers from member states were invited to design a new logo that reflects the developments in the telecommunications sector throughout the continent.

The competition was announced, in Egypt, among the young innovators and designers in coordination with the Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (TIEC). Two Egyptian young people were selected, and the ATU Secretariat listed them among the shortlisted candidates of the competition to select the winner during the meeting.

A list of candidates from Member States for the election of the ATU Secretary-General will also be presented during the meeting, which will be voted on during the Plenipotentiary Conference, due to be held in July 2018 in Kenya.

The Administrative Council is the entity entrusted with adopting and implementing the ATU annual plan, as well as approving the annual budget of the ATU activities. The Administrative Council consists of 23 states representing five geographical regions of Africa.

The Administrative Council meets annually to review the annual plan of the ATU activities and adopt the annual plan of the next year. The ATU Secretariat provides a detailed report on the past year's budget and member states present the latest achievements in this sector.

ATU was established in 1977 as the leading continental organization fostering the development of ICT infrastructure and services with a current membership of 46 Member States and 17 Associate Members. It aims to encourage cooperation among Member States for the advancement of the ICT sector through exchanging latest findings in this field and discussing how other members can benefit from these experiences. The ATU also assists decision-makers in Member States to develop policies and strategies to improve this sector in their countries. It also represents the African continent in international forums and defends Member States interests in the relevant international gatherings.
