EOI Best 50 Programmers Qualified for IOI'2019 Azerbaijan Preparations


The Egyptian Olympiad in Informatics (EOI) 2018 Closing Ceremony was held on September 13- 15, at the Arab Academy for Science Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) premises, in Alexandria, where a number of 50 programmers were qualified for Preparations for the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI )2019, due to be held in Azerbaijan.

EOI is a national annual competition in IT and programming, launched by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), in cooperation with the Arab Academy for Science Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) in 2003. EOI promotes the use of IT tools to solve practical problems, shedding light on talented young people in the society giving them the opportunity for success in the marketplace. EOI also promotes and rewards innovations.

Contestants are required to solve a series of questions and problems using methodical thinking and basic computer algorithms to devise a suitable program. Problem solving techniques, according to the competition regulations, include problem definition and analysis, strategy selection and implementation, and finally solution validation.

Out of a large number of applicants, of school students, around 60 are chosen to participate in the contest. They sign up from all over Egypt to develop optimal solutions for various technical problems that range in difficulty using algorithms, mathematical and numerical methods and computer programming languages over two days for five hours daily.  The areas that the competition covers have expanded since its initiation to accommodate the new programs and courses provided.

The first four winning contestants after being well prepared, through training sessions and tests, are nominated to represent Egypt in the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI).
