El-Sisi Inaugurates Cairo ICT 2018


President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi opened, today, the 22nd edition of Cairo ICT, a leading international ICT trade fair and forum for the Middle East and Africa, held under his auspices, on November 25-28, at Egypt International Exhibition Center (EIEC).

During the inauguration ceremony, the Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat has delivered a speech, in which he showcased the Egyptian government's experience in developing the ICT sector. He also reviewed the fields of cooperation and exchange of experiences with a number of regional and international entities, stating that Cairo ICT has become attractive to many experts, entrepreneurs and investors in different technology sectors in the region and the world.

The President inspected a number of the exhibition's pavilions of the Egyptian government agencies such as the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Military Production, Ministry of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Technical Education, Egypt National Post Organization (ENPO), and the National Anti-Corruption Academy. He also visited a number of halls for some private companies, including mobile networks operators and fiber optic manufacturing companies.

In this context, el-Sisi was briefed about the efforts of the government institutions within the framework of the State's intensive plans for the transition to an integrated digital government and society. A number of projects were presented, including the development of the e-government portal, the integration of national databases systems, the establishment of the one stop shop for investors, the automation of the tax and customs systems, the launch of e-mail services, the use of simulation systems for train driving training, and the creation of a system for controlling railways.

This is in addition to the automation of public services provided by the Ministry of Interior, such as civil status and traffic, the manufacturing of bag detection devices and electrical meters, and the development of the digital education system and electronic evaluation. In addition, he was also briefed about the efforts exerted to upgrade the services provided by mobile network operators and the latest technologies of the Fourth Generation (4G).

On his part, the President emphasized the importance of the telecommunications sector as an essential pillar contributing to improving the lives of citizens, through implanting technology and using its latest systems nationwide. This is in addition to creating an environment that encourages youth capacity-building and job creation through establishing mega-projects and increasing investment in this vital sector. El-Sisi also highlighted the need to continue efforts and launch innovative initiatives in this regard to meet the current global challenges and drive economic growth to achieve the goals of Egypt's sustainable development strategy 2030.
