Egyptian student Yousef Salama won a silver medal in the 27th International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) that was held in Kazakhstan this year from July 26 until August 2.
Held annually for secondary school students, IOI is one of the most prestigious computer science competitions in the world with UNECO and the International Federation for Information Procession (IFIP) being patrons. During the competition, students have to solve problems of algorithmic nature and computer programing.
Egypt has been taking part in the IOI since 2005 and hosted the competition in 2008. Over years of participation, Egypt received a number of silver and bronze medals which facilitated the provision of job opportunities for participants in the world's leading information technology companies.
The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) has been keen to support and sponsor the participation of Egypt in the IOI. This year, a training camp was held during the period of May 28 – June 27 for a number of 20 students who won the Egyptian Olympiad in Informatics that took place last April. This is in addition to holding two other training camps during the period of July 1-24.
