MCIT Organizes Second COP National Committee Meeting-Second Term

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) held the second meeting of the second term of the National Committee for Child Online Protection (COP) at MCIT headquarters on December 8. The first term of COP Committee started in 2013 until 2015 and it was renewed for another term from 2015 to 2017.

Dr. Sherif Hashem delivered an opening remark welcoming participants, then the meeting tackled relevant issues covering the recommendations of the first meeting and Egypt’s participation in #WeProtect Children Online Global Summit in UAE. The meeting also included an explanation for classifying the new scientific material that has been obtained. This is in addition to a free discussion on the celebration of Safer Internet Day 2016. A workshop was organized directly after the meeting on setting-up a network of experts on Kenana Online website.

These meetings are within the framework of MCIT interest in the information security and child online protection fields, via ensuring an ongoing communication between the concerned bodies.

In this context, the ICT Minister issued a decree to formulate a national committee concerned with child online protection. This is line with MCIT vision to apply child online protection nationwide, through collaborative efforts of all ministries. The decree named a number of concerned bodies in order to reach out a national strategy facing the challenges and answering the needs of the society nationwide.
