SID 2020 to Hold

This year's version of Safer Internet Day (SID) is celebrated globally, on February 11, under the theme "Together for a better internet", as a call to action for all stakeholders to join together and play their part in creating a better internet for everyone, especially for younger users.

SID is celebrated globally in February of each year to promote the safe and positive use of digital technology for children and young people. The event sees hundreds of organizations unite to raise awareness of online safety issues and get involved to help promote the safe, responsible and positive use of digital technology for children and young people.

The day, which comprises many events and activities, offers the opportunity to highlight positive uses of technology and to explore the role people can play in helping create a better and safer online community. It calls upon young people, parents, careers, teachers, social workers, law enforcement bodies, companies, policymakers and others to unite together to help create a better internet.

Celebrating SID started eleven years ago as a European Union (EU) and Insafe network initiative in the European states. In 2009, committees were formed in countries to strengthen ties amongst them and facilitate cooperation on online safety issues. Over the years, celebration crossed boundaries of the EU; the day which was celebrated in 14 countries only, is now celebrated in nearly 100 countries worldwide.
