Egypt Partakes in First Virtual ICT Expert Mission to Smart City Sweden

Egypt, represented by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA), and the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) participated, on July 1, in the first virtual ICT expert mission to Smart City Sweden, a state-funded export platform for smart sustainable city solutions.

The mission is in line with MCIT keenness on using emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), to provide effective technological solutions for facing current and future socioeconomic challenges, and delivering excellent services to citizens.

Smart City Sweden gave a detailed presentation about the smart uses of energy saving and the smart solutions of transport and urban planning.

In addition, the mission included holding a virtual meeting with Ericsson, where the company’s latest technological developments were presented.

The meeting was chaired by the Sweden Ambassador to Egypt Jan Thesleff who stated that Egypt had proven that building a balanced and diversified economy is achieved through innovation and knowledge exchange. The meeting also discussed Sweden’s willingness to cooperate with Egypt to make optimum utilization of digital solutions and AI applications in areas including transport, fintech and healthcare.

The meeting was joined by the Market Area Director for Middle East at Business Sweden Massoud Biouki.

The Egyptian side appreciated the opportunity to explore such a world’s leading experience, and showed interest in proposing areas of cooperation in using emerging technologies for development and within the framework of implementing the strategy of Digital Egypt.

Smart City Sweden is a state-funded platform for smart city solutions, targeting enhancing cooperation between Sweden and other countries of the world, in smart and sustainable city solutions. It brings together the best practices adopted in Sweden in climate, energy, environment, transport, digitization, urban planning and social sustainability.

The Embassy of Sweden in Cairo,  Business Sweden and the Swedish Institute in Stockholm join forces to promote Sweden’s role as Egypt's partner in innovation.
