MCIT Launches ‘Digital Egypt Builders Initiative’

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) has launched Digital Egypt Builders Initiative (DEBI), announced during the opening of a number of educational facilities by President Abdel Fattah el Sisi, in September 2020.

The initiative is a free scholarship that aims to build human capital in advanced technical areas and develop youth innovative capacities. It is carried out in collaboration with a number of international universities specializing in modern technologies, as well as international companies specializing in ICT, leadership or language skills development.

The objectives of the initiative include building capacities in the areas of high-value modern technological applications, developing the skills of university graduates to become pioneers in ICT, creating an enabling environment to nurture innovation and excellence, and building character through cultural, sports and social activities.

DEBI targets training 1,000 graduates of the Faculties of Engineering and Computer Science, with a Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, electronics and communications engineering, computers and information or computer science.

Training includes four main tracks: data science and Artificial Intelligence (AI); cybersecurity; robotics and automation; and digital arts. The initiative also includes training in leadership, management and English language skills, as well as a range of teamwork skills and activities.

Trainees study the main subjects for eight months, and spend four others on their graduation projects. By the end of the training, they get to receive a professional Master's degree in one of the four technical tracks, granted by one of the partner universities. This is in addition to certificates from international IT companies, international certificates in leadership and management skills, and an international certificate in English language skills.
