Fifth Arab Internet Governance Forum


The Fifth Arab Internet Governance Forum (ArabIGF-V) was held on January 22-23, in Cairo. It was organized in collaboration between the United Nations (UN) Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), the League of Arab States (LAS) and the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) - the Arab IGF Secretariat, and hosted by the Arab Administrative Development Organization (ARADO).

The Forum acted as a dialogue platform on Internet global public policy issues. ArabIGF-V sought to strengthen dialogue and cooperation on Internet governance amongst all stakeholders in the Arab region, including governments, private sector, civil society, academics, technical community, and regional and international organizations.

The dialogue covered the topics of priority and issues related to Internet policies in the region, in line with the priorities stipulated in the Second Arab Roadmap for Internet Governance. The event also aimed to facilitate linking the thematic areas covered with the overall objective of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
 
The event main themes included: Contribution to Internet global public policymaking: from Internet governance to digital cooperation; Meaningful access for inclusion and diversity; Digital transformation and Internet economy; Cyber security, privacy, trust and peace. The event also discussed cross-cutting areas, including: Gender equality and women empowerment; Social and human impact; Human development and capacity building; and Legislative frameworks.
