ITU AI/ML in 5G Grand Challenge Finale Kicks Off

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) organizes the Artificial Intelligence (AI)/Machine Learning (ML) in 5G Grand Challenge Finale, on December 15-17, in Geneva, Switzerland, as part of the activities of AI for Good Global Summit 2020.

The Grand Challenge Finale is the culmination event of the ITU AI/ML in 5G Challenge. The event marks the end of the first edition of the challenge, which started in March 2020.

Winning teams from each regional host will describe the problem statement and present their solutions. On the last day, December 17, the “ITU AI/ML in 5G Challenge Global Champion” will be declared along with the runner ups.

The final event will feature innovative AI/ML solutions that can be applied in real network to address some of the problems that network operators face. In addition, it will also have path-breaking research presented by invited speakers from academia and industry.

Leaders from the sponsors, including the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) in the United Arab Emirates, Cisco and ZTE, will present their vision of the future of AI/ML in networks.

The event aims to energize a community of value which can address network related problems using AI/ML, including academia, industry and Standards Developing Organizations (SDOs), which would in turn drive ITU standardization work for AI/ML.

The ITU was established in 1865. It is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN), responsible for all matters related to ICTs, and is one of the oldest international organizations in operation.
