Egypt Celebrates Safer Internet Day

Egypt, represented by the Central Department for Community Development at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), is participating in the 18th edition of Safer Internet Day (SID), celebrated online, on February 9.

The Department is organizing a number of awareness activities that aim to promote a safer and more positive use of digital technology for children and adolescents, and help protect the privacy of Internet users at large.

Under the theme “Together for a better Internet,” SID aims to help create a safer online environment for everyone through inviting individuals, nations and institutions to use technology based on four core principles, required to protect everyone on the Internet, especially children and adolescents. These principles are: Respect, Responsibility, Reasoning and Resilience.

Since 2007, MCIT has been attaching great importance to online safety through adopting the four core principles to promote safe use of the Internet in Egypt. MCIT has been working on raising community awareness and cooperating with local and international partners to enable children and adolescents to use the Internet safely, and protect their privacy. This is in addition to developing the best practices to promote online safety for both children and their families, and prevention methods to achieve protection in a digital world, as well as raising awareness of online safety tips.
