Egypt, represented by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), participated in the meeting of the Arab Artificial Intelligence (AI) Working Group, held on February 15-16, under the umbrella of the League of Arab States (LAS).
During the meeting, Egypt was elected Chair of the Working Group, while Saudi Arabia and Palestine were elected Vice Chairs.
The meeting discussed a number of topics, including considering developing an Arab AI strategy, listing AI issues and areas of priority to Arab countries, enhancing cooperation to bridge the digital divide between developed and developing countries, and overcoming disparity of technological capabilities through exchanging expertise and developing a joint framework for capacity building in the Arab World.
The Arab AI Working Group was formed by virtue of the Arab Telecommunications and Information Council of Ministers (ATICM) decision, during its 23rd Session, based on a proposal submitted by Egypt given the need for a unified Arab stance and work plan in the AI front.
