Egypt Partakes in ITU WP 5D Meeting


Egypt, represented by the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA), is participating in the 37th meeting of Working Party 5D (WP 5D), organized by the Radiocommunication Sector at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU-R), virtually, on March 1-12.

The meeting is attended by more than 600 experts and specialists from ITU Member States, the industry community, regulators and United Nations (UN) organizations.

WP 5D is responsible for the overall radio system aspects of International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT) systems worldwide.

The Egyptian team is participating in the meeting to submit contributions and develop an international regulatory framework for mobile phone systems in a way that contributes to developing service quality standards, making optimal use of radio-frequency spectrum resources and supporting the local market growth. This comes in light of the progress made in digital transformation projects in Egypt, paving the way for more development plans in this area.

The meeting discussed topics on developing and updating ITU-R Handbooks, radio-frequency spectrum regulations and 5G global standards. This is in addition to preparing for World Radiocommunication Conference 2023 (WRC-23), which is expected to identify additional radio-frequency bands for mobile phone networks.
