Egypt Partakes in Smart City Sweden ‘Eco Governance’ Workshop

Egypt, represented by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA), participated in the Eco Governance Workshop, organized by Smart City Sweden, online, on March 10. The workshop was attended by experts and officials from MCIT, NTRA and Sweden.

The workshop came as part of MCIT efforts to strengthen cooperation with Scandinavian countries in ICT, especially emerging technology and smart sustainable cities. It also came within the activities of cooperation with Smart City Sweden, especially after the virtual expert mission to Sweden organized in July 2020.

The Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Sweden in Cairo Per-Axel Frielingsdorf joined the workshop. He commended the Egyptian efforts in innovation and smart sustainable cities, and highlighted Sweden's eagerness to cooperate with Egypt in those areas, especially as Egypt attaches great importance to emerging smart cities, on top of which is the New Administrative Capital and New Alamein City.

During the workshop, Smart City Sweden gave a detailed presentation on the digital transformation of societies and how to transform traditional cities into smart sustainable ones through eco governance. In this regard, Hammarby Sjöstad successful experience was presented as an example.

The Egyptian side welcomed the opportunity to explore one of the world’s leading experiences, and expressed its interest in classifying existing cities and transforming them into sustainable cities, within the framework of the several presidential initiatives aimed at developing slums, and Egypt's Vision 2030.
