MCIT Launches Initiative to Raise Higher Education Students Awareness of AI

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) has launched a training grant for students of higher education, in different universities and higher institutes, in partnership with Certiport of Pearson VUE, through Skills Plus, the company’s agent in Egypt. This comes as part of Digital Egypt strategy that aims to achieve digital transformation in all the State agencies.

Students, through the training initiative, receive a Microsoft certification in Artificial Intelligence (AI). The aim is to hone students’ skills; support digital transformation in universities and educational institutions through spreading knowledge and raising awareness of the latest trends in modern digital technologies; and providing excellent opportunities of professional training and qualification to help students join the labor market.

The collaboration with Certiport and Microsoft targets offering awareness technology courses for the initiative participants, providing them with basic information and knowledge in AI.

The initiative involves training in the scientific content and conducting experimental and international tests to qualify students for Microsoft Technical Certification (MTC), granted after passing the AI-900: Microsoft Azure AI Fundamentals exam, certified from Certiport.

The training covers several topics, including an introduction to AI, Machine Learning (ML), computer vision, Natural Language Processing (NLP), and conversational AI.

The initiative targets training 500 higher education students through self-learning on Certiport educational platform. This is in addition to organizing online workshops for the initiative participants, delivered by the digital skills development programs team of trainers at MCIT.

MCIT and Skills Plus - an agent to several international companies specializing in technological training – collaborated to carry out a large number of training programs through initiatives including the Cybersecurity Initiative, and Safe Digital Society Initiative, launched in January 2012, in collaboration with Cisco. This is in addition to the Global Skills Initiative, launched early March, in collaboration with Microsoft, with the aim to equip young Egyptians with the necessary digital skills to fill new jobs.

MCIT also cooperated and coordinated with many international companies and institutions specializing in professional training, to train the government employees moving to the New Administrative Capital.

The AI initiative is one in a series of initiatives launched by the Institutional Development, Training and Human Capacity Building Sector at MCIT, with the aim to spread knowledge and raise awareness of the significance of the digital transformation in all the State agencies, which the political leadership is adopting.

This also aims to promote digital literacy among Egyptians, users of websites, government services portals, digital applications and social media platforms, and develop their knowledge and skills to face emerging cyber threats, especially with the increased rate of cybercrime, hacking, data breach, cyber threats and challenges facing securing citizen databases in different State sectors. The initiatives also aim to help keep up with the modern digital technologies and developments occurring worldwide in different fields.
