The Central Department for Community Development at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) organized “The future of women’s empowerment in the era of digital transformation: Innovation, Partnership, Leadership” event, on March 24.
The event was organized on the occasion of the International Women’s Day 2021, and as part of the efforts to further the role of technology in empowering women economically to help achieve the digital transformation in Egypt.
The Head of the Central Department for Community Development gave a talk where she addressed the effective role of technology in empowering women based on Digital Egypt vision, which comes in parallel with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and MCIT efforts to build people’s capacity and empower women through developing digital innovation skills and creativity.
She commended MCIT cooperation and continuous efforts to work with relevant governmental and international agencies and the civil society to raise awareness of the women’s empowerment opportunities provided by IT, which contribute to creating more sustainable job opportunities for women.
During the event, a presentation was made on the vision of Qodwa-Tech initiative for women’s empowerment for sustainable development. This included presenting the IT for community development projects, carried out during the past years, benefiting women the most. This is in addition to the integration of vision and unity of efforts of those projects through launching Qodwa-Tech initiative, which focuses on the economic and social empowerment of Egyptian women using ICT to promote digital transformation and help create new productive communities that draw on qualified girls and women who support and train their peers in local communities.
The event also discussed the initiative work methodology, from establishing community partnerships and developing the training programs and technological applications that cover women’s needs, to preparing local communities for the digital transformation through organizing awareness sessions to introduce the initiative, digital citizenship rights and other topics, as well as qualifying and empowering knowledgeable women to transfer technology expertise to craftswomen.
The discussion was joined by a large number of representatives of partner organizations and agencies concerned with women’s empowerment issues in Egypt, where the efforts of those organizations in encouraging women to work, supporting their role and empowering them, were presented.
The event hosted inspiring women who played an important role in supporting women’s social and economic issues, online. In addition, the success stories and experiences of women who participated in the training were presented, and a number of participants of Qodwa-Tech in 2020 were honored.
