An Egyptian team of four girls is participating in the 1st European Girls' Olympiad in Informatics (EGOI 2021), organized by the Swiss Olympiad in Informatics, on June 13 - 19, in Zurich, Switzerland. The Egyptian team’s participation is sponsored by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT).
EGOI is a new programming competition for girls that aims to provide a platform for young women to enjoy and deepen their interest in computer science. The main goals of EGOI is to help bridge the gender gap through encouraging young women to study or work in the field of computer sciences, create female role models and promote European cultural exchange.
EGOI has two main contests during which the contestants will solve challenging problems through designing and implementing efficient algorithms. On the sidelines of the competition, social events will be organized, such as excursions, to give the participants time to get to know each other.
