MCIT Organizes ‘Threats Children Face Online, Protection Mechanisms’ Webinar

The Central Department for Digital Community Development at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) organized the first interactive webinar, titled “Threats Children Face Online and Protection Mechanisms,” on July 12.

The webinar is organized within the Digital Citizenship Initiative, in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), and Google Egypt’s YouTube Kids team.

During the Webinar, the objectives of the initiative were presented, as well as MCIT efforts in raising awareness of the digital citizenship basic skills to qualify people for the digital transformation and create a generation aware of its digital responsibilities and rights. This will help enable citizens to access and use information in a safe and effective manner, possess the necessary tools for online safety, and manage the risks associated with the digital environment.

A number of experts and officials participated in the Webinar, reviewed the threats children face online and on social media, and discussed the mechanisms of protecting children from content-related threats on children websites. They also presented real-life models of the threats that children are exposed to on the web, especially on social media.

It is worth mentioning that MCIT launched the Digital Citizenship Initiative for a Safe Digital Generation with the aim to create effective digital citizens, aware of the rights, responsibilities and opportunities to live, learn and work in a digital world that helps people work and innovate in safe, legit and ethical ways.
