Egypt Partakes in 9th Arab Regional Cyber Drill 2021

Egypt, represented by the Egyptian Computer Emergency Readiness Team (EG-CERT), is participating in the 9th Arab Regional Cyber Drill 2021, held on September 28, under the theme “Enhance Cyber Security Readiness.” The Drill is organized by the International Telecommunication Union’s Arab Regional Cyber Security Center (ITU-ARCC), in collaboration with Oman National Computer Emergency Readiness Team and the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation – Computer Emergency Response Teams (OIC-CERT).

Around 22 CERTs from Arab countries and OIC-CERT Member States will participate in this year’s Drill.

The Drill is one of the flagship cybersecurity events in the region. The aim is to raise awareness of cybersecurity and reduce incident response time while ensuring seamless collective effort in mitigating cyber threats among the region’s national Computer Incident Response Teams (CIRTs).

The Drill is conducted through a digital platform where participating teams receive a set of messages that simulate a pre-executed cyber-attack to measure the teams' readiness in the event of a cyber-attack on government institutions.

EG-CERT was established in 2009 as part of the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA). The Team is charged with providing computer and information security incident response, support, defense, and analysis against cyberattacks, and collaboration with governmental and financial entities and any other critical information infrastructure sectors. EG-CERT also provides early warning against malware spreading and massive cyberattacks against Egypt’s telecommunication infrastructure.
