The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) have co-organized the closing ceremony of the 14th Egyptian Olympiad in Informatics (EOI) at AASTMT premises in New Alamein City. The ceremony was attended by officials and teams from the two sides.
Around 4,646 school students applied to participate in EOI; they were selected through Beaver Challenge. The 300 top-performing students participated in the training program organized by MCIT.
This year, the Ministry of Youth and Sports spread the word about EOI across youth centers and clubs in different governorates. School students from 24 governorates participated in the event. One hundred students, 22 of which are girls, made it to the final competition.
In 2003, MCIT launched an initiative to organize EOI to train and qualify Egyptian school students for the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI). The program has been, since then, implemented in collaboration with AASTMT.
IOI is the flagship programming and algorithm event targeting school students. MCIT is keen to train and qualify an Egyptian team to participate in the international competition, every year.
The Egyptian team landed several medals in IOI, taking Egypt’s tally to 25 medals: 19 bronze and six silver. Egypt is going to host IOI, for the second time, in 2024, after hosting it in 2008.
