Expo 2020, GITEX Global



Expo 2020 is taking place from October 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022, in Dubai. The event focuses on architecture, culture, and innovation and hosts pavilions from 191 countries as well as from international organizations and civil society, with the aim to address the world’s most critical challenges and opportunities.
 
In conjunction with Expo, GITEX Global was held on October 17-20, in Dubai. The event is an ultimate grand showcase of technology that brought together big tech companies, government entities and startups to source and explore cutting-edge innovations from across the globe. This year's event featured tech enterprises and startups from across 26 sectors and included deep learning sessions, workshops and live demos.
 
The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat participated in the two events, heading a high-level delegation. He witnessed the signing of several cooperation agreements and held meetings with some of the largest companies specializing in ICT to discuss making new investments in the Egyptian market.
 
As part of GITEX Global, Talaat delivered a speech at the “Digital Egypt: Opening new horizons for development and investment" session, as part of Vision Africa conference. He highlighted the competitive advantages of the Egyptian ICT sector and pointed out the efforts exerted in the framework of cooperation with the African countries.
 
On the sidelines of GITEX, the ICT Minister witnessed the signing of a cooperation agreement between Telecom Egypt and Nokia to build Egypt’s first Internet of Things (IoT) infrastructure through Nokia Worldwide IoT Network Grid (WING).
 
Talaat also met with Tech Mahindra Senior Vice President (VP) and Head of Middle East and Africa (MEA) Ram Ramachandran. They discussed cooperation in implementing digital transformation projects in Egypt and the possibility of establishing a service center for Tech Mahindra in Egypt to serve customers in different markets around the world.
 
Moreover, the ICT Minister met with Amazon Web Services (AWS) VP, Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) Isabella Groegor-Cechowicz. They discussed AWS plans to expand its business in Egypt and enhance cooperation in capacity building.
 
During Expo 2020, Talaat witnessed the signing of a cooperation agreement between Nile Online and the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA). According to the agreement, Nile Online, a subsidiary of Etisalat Misr, will expand its business in Egypt through providing call center and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) services to its clients around the world.
 
The ICT Minister also met with the Regional Manager at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) Ajay Singh, to discuss cooperation in IT, digital transformation and BPO in Egypt. During the meeting, the digital transformation projects implemented by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) in cooperation with state agencies and institutions, as part of the efforts to build Digital Egypt, were presented.
 
Furthermore, Talaat met with Vice President, Middle East and Africa (MEA) at Infosys Ltd. Sriranga Sampathkumar. They discussed Egypt’s competitive advantages and remarkable standing in the BPO and offshore services industry map.
 
The ICT Minister also met with the Managing Director, MENA at Google Lino Cattaruzzi. They discussed the Company’s plans and the possibility of cooperating in data centers and cloud computing.
 
Concluding his participation in Expo 2020, Talaat delivered a talk at the “Investment Opportunities in IT and Infrastructure in Egypt” session and toured the Egyptian pavilion where investment projects in different sectors were showcased.
