Egypt, represented by the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), is participating in Web Summit 2021, organized on November 1-4, in Lisbon, Portugal. Web Summit is a technology conference that brings together founders and CEOs of tech companies, fast-growing startups, policymakers, and heads of state to redefine the global tech industry.
Through its participation in Web Summit, ITIDA, representing the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), supports the Egyptian pavilion, in collaboration with the Digital Economy and Technology General Division (DETGD) of the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce (FEDCOC).
The Egyptian pavilion hosts 18 Egypt-based startups, five of which are in the growth stage and 13 in the alpha and beta stages. This in addition to 10 visiting local tech companies.
ITIDA aims to enforce Egypt's standing on the global map of innovation and entrepreneurship, promote the innovative solutions of local tech startups, and highlight the incentives and benefits that Egypt offers in that field. ITIDA also seeks to attract more investments to the thriving local tech-enabled innovation ecosystem and expand the base of Venture Capital (VC) funds, major investors, and specialized platforms in supporting entrepreneurs in Egypt.
It is worth noting that Egypt is witnessing an unprecedented boom in startups amid significant and increased interest from regional and international VCs, global accelerators, and tech incubators, along with a wide array of private and government support services available to Egyptian entrepreneurs.
The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) is keen on promoting entrepreneurship, carrying out specialized training programs, fostering innovation among university students and graduates, and establishing CREATIVA Innovation Hubs nationwide. This is in addition to ITIDA efforts in fostering entrepreneurship and promoting the Egyptian tech startup ecosystem on a global scale.
