MCIT Organizes Session on Digital Inclusion in Rural Villages at ITU-UNESCO Regional Digital Inclusion Week

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) participated as a governmental partner in the Regional Digital Inclusion Week for the Arab States, which was organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on November 28- December 2, under the theme “Ensuring equity and inclusivity in all that we do: Data, Platforms and Policies.”

During the Digital Inclusion Week, MCIT organized a session titled “Digital Inclusion: The journey from digital awareness to digital culture in rural villages.” The session shed light on MCIT efforts in promoting digital literacy among citizens in the villages targeted within Decent Life initiative for developing the Egyptian countryside.

The session also highlighted the national efforts and, in particular, MCIT role, in Decent Life initiative, which is carried out by a large number of government institutions, the private sector and civil society. In this regard, MCIT is adopting a holistic approach to transform the villages into interactive, safe and productive digital communities. This is achieved through several pillars, including upgrading the telecommunications infrastructure by installing fiber-optic cables and building mobile towers to improve the quality of telecommunication services.

Moreover, MCIT is working to make advanced and full postal and digital governmental services available through post offices and different channels, and to promote human development through building the capacity of citizens in the villages.

Furthermore, the session discussed MCIT role in carrying out digital transformation projects in all state institutions. The projects are aimed at improving the quality of public services and optimizing public resource management. The session also reviewed MCIT efforts in implementing the institutional development plan for qualifying citizens, employees and state institutions to absorb digital transformation and maintain its sustainability to create a safe and productive interactive digital society.

The session was joined by people from different segments of the society, in Decent Life villages, who participated in MCIT capacity building initiatives and programs. They said there were pleased to participate in the programs that MCIT offers.

During the session, the experience of a group of imams from the Ministry of Awqaf (Endowments), who joined the "Qualifying Knowledgeable Awqaf Imams" program, was presented. This is in addition to the experience of persons with visual impairment, who benefited from the "Rehabilitation of People of Determination" program for using social media platforms. The first phase of the program is implemented in Decent Life villages in Assiut. Moreover, the session presented the experience of some of the beneficiaries of the digital culture and digital and financial inclusion sessions on how to obtain digital services through Digital Egypt Platform.
