The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) has organized 142 educational sessions for building capacity and promoting digital literacy, for 4,487 citizens in the rural villages targeted within the Decent Life initiative for developing the Egyptian countryside. The sessions were organized on December 1-31, 2021, in collaboration with the governorates’ general bureaus and Decent Life Foundation.
The sessions were organized in light of the objectives of the Initiative and as part of MCIT efforts in building Digital Egypt and creating interactive digital communities in the countryside. The sessions are aimed at promoting digital literacy, enhancing financial inclusion, and raising awareness of the public services available through different government channels and the Digital Egypt platform, in areas including health, education, food subsidy, and utilities. The sessions help qualify people to have access to and utilize those services.
So far, MCIT has managed to train 13,096 citizens in rural villages in 12 governorates: Beheira, Dakahlia, Sharqia, Gharbia, Kafr El-Sheikh, Menoufia, Beni Suef, Fayoum, Minya, Sohag, Qena, and New Valley.
Decent Life is a national initiative launched by President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to improve the quality of life, especially for citizens in unprivileged areas, through rendering a wide range of health, social, and living services. The initiative is implemented in collaboration between several entities and ministries, one of which is MCIT.
The role of MCIT in the initiative involves upgrading the ICT infrastructure, installing fiber optics cables, and building cell towers to improve the quality of telecom services. MCIT also develops post offices, builds citizens’ capacity, qualifies young people for freelancing, and supports and equips owners of small businesses with digital marketing skills.
