ICT Minister Visit to Beni Suef


The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat visited Beni Suef Governorate to inspect and open several ICT and post projects. He was accompanied by the Governor of Beni Suef Mohamad Hany Ghoneim, officials from the Governorate and from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and its affiliated organizations.

During the visit, Talaat and the Minister of Education and Technical Education Tarek Shawki had an inspection tour at the new Samsung tablet factory. It is being established with investments amounting to half a billion EGP within the framework of the national strategy to indigenize technology and support the local manufacturing of tablets to be used for educational purposes. The factory is also in line with the Egypt Makes Electronics (EME) presidential initiative.

They two Ministers were accompanied on the inspection tour by Beni Suef Governor and the South Korean Ambassador to Egypt Hong Jin Wook. They toured the factory to check on the factory's readiness to produce tablets for school students, following the highest international standards to cater to the country’s future needs of educational electronics.

Moreover, the ICT Minister and Beni Suef Governor witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between MCIT and Beni Suef Governorate. The aim is to promote sustainable digital community development and build citizens’ digital capabilities using ICT tools.

The MoU is in line with MCIT strategy of contributing to the implementation of the national plan to build the Egyptian citizen and bring about digital transformation. This is achieved by building the capacity of and upskilling young people in various fields to attain digital community development in a way that helps boost the Egyptian digital economy.

Talaat and Ghoneim, also, inspected a telemedicine unit at Beni Suef Specialized Hospital. The unit acts as a service receiver in the telemedicine system, which is implemented within the framework the telemedicine presidential initiative carried out in partnership between MCIT, the Ministry of Health and Population, and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

The ICT Minister and Beni Suef Governor also visited the promenade along the Nile Corniche. They agreed to cooperate to develop its infrastructure and provide it with internet coverage.

Furthermore, Talaat and Ghoneim visited New Beni Suef Technology Park. They were received by the CEO of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) Amr Mahfouz and the Managing Director and CEO of Silicon Waha for technology parks Hashem Mansy. During his visit, the ICT Minister discussed with officials the possibility of establishing a CREATIVA Innovation Hub inside New Beni Suef Technology Park.

In addition, Talaat and Ghoneim opened three post offices in Beni Suef, namely Beni Suef Post Office, El-Mermah Post Office, and Moqbel Post Office. The offices were developed and equipped with modern systems and technological solutions to deliver financial, postal, and governmental services to citizens. They were accompanied by the Chairman of the Egyptian National Post Organization (ENPO) Sherif Farouk.

They also inspected the phases of construction of the administrative building of Beni Suef postal area. The building is located on an area of 350 square meters and boasts a post office, eight administrative floors and a parking lot.

Moreover, the ICT Minister and Beni Suef Governor inspected the workflow at Telecom Egypt Beni Suef store. They were received by the Managing Director and CEO of Telecom Egypt Adel Hamed, and the company’s officials in Beni Suef.
