Egypt Partakes in Smart Africa CMICT Fifth Meeting

Egypt, represented by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), is participating in the fifth meeting of the Smart Africa Council of Ministers of ICT (CMICT), organized on February 25-26, in Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo.

The meeting will address the achievements made in 2021 and the implementation status of the resolutions carried during CMICT fourth meeting. Members of the council will discuss proposed projects, including a data protection and privacy guide; Smart Africa Green Data Center; Smart Africa Community Connect; Smart Africa Digital Economy Index, which tracks progress toward digital transformation; and BLOC Smart Africa Fund, a program that invests in businesses using scalable technology-led solutions to create growth opportunities for underserved communities in Africa.

Other projects in the pipeline include establishing an African center for Artificial Intelligence (AI) and launching Smart Africa Digital Academy (SADA) in Congo. SADA was set up by Smart Africa as a catalyst for building fair, inclusive and sustainable digital societies in Africa by providing capacity-building for decision-makers and regulators.

Smart Africa is an alliance of 32 African countries, international organizations and global private sector players tasked with accelerating Africa’s digital agenda, including achieving sustainable socio-economic development and ushering Africa into a knowledge economy through affordable access to broadband and usage of ICTs.
