Mahara-Tech platform of the Information Technology Institute (ITI) has won the ESCWA Digital Arabic Content (DAC) Award for Sustainable Development. The winners were announced during the Arab Forum for Sustainable Development (AFSD), held on March 15-17.
The ESCWA DAC Award is an annual joint award between the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and the World Summit Awards (WSA) that recognizes efforts to develop digital Arabic content for sustainable development in the Arab region.
Through the Award, ESCWA seeks to bridge the digital divide and facilitate the access of different segments of society to the Internet and digital services in the Arabic language. The Award is aimed at highlighting the benefits of digital technologies for advancing sustainable development, appreciating the efforts made in creating and developing digital content in the Arabic language, and promoting entrepreneurship to accelerate development in the region.
It is worth mentioning that Egypt, represented by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), participated in AFSD. It was organized by ESCWA, in collaboration with the League of Arab States (LAS) and other United Nations entities operating in Arab countries.
AFSD-2022 was convened under the theme “Recover and Resilience.” It reviewed Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 4, 5, 14, 15 and 17.
The Forum brought together Arab Governments and a broad range of stakeholders to address sustainable development priorities from a regional perspective, discuss progress, review national experiences, and enhance the region’s voice at the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF).
