The finals of the first Egyptian Informatics Olympiad in Teams was organized on March 25, in Port Said City, under the auspices of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT). Three winning teams have been qualified to represent Egypt in the International Informatics Olympiad in Teams (IIOT), to be held in Italy in mid-May 2022.
Competing in the finals were 31 teams out of 50, selected through a number of international qualifiers organized over four months, starting November 2021.
The Egyptian Olympiad in Informatics (EOI) is a prominent competition in computer algorithms, programming and systematic approaches to problem-solving, targeting school students. The competition helped spot exceptional youth in ICT, most of whom received scholarships abroad, with some currently working in tech giants such as Facebook, Google, Microsoft and others.
It is worth mentioning that Egypt officially joined IIOT as Regular Member in 2021. IIOT is a flagship computer science competition that targets high school students, just like the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI), except problems in IIOT are solved in four-member teams, using only two computers for each team.
IIOT aims to encourage high school students to focus on informatics, programming and problem-solving skills. It also seeks to promote teamwork spirit to enhance knowledge and experience exchange among youngsters who share the same interests and qualifications, as participants join in teams.
