World Summit on Information Society Forum 2022

The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum 2022 is held from March 15 to June 3, under the theme “ICTs for Well-Being, Inclusion and Resilience: WSIS Cooperation for Accelerating Progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).”

Egypt, represented by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), has participated in the inauguration ceremony of WSIS Forum.

During the WSIS Prizes ceremony, the “Jobs and Skills for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) with Focus on ICT-Based Solutions” project, implemented by MCIT, was announced as a Champion Project in Category 11 — AL C7. ICT applications: benefits in all aspects of life — E-employment. The project beat out 966 international projects, 360 of which made it to the final list, leaving only five Champion Projects in each category of the contest.

The “Jobs and Skills for PwDs with Focus on ICT-Based Solutions” project is implemented in cooperation with UNDP and the International Labor Organization (ILO), and is funded by the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).

The project seeks to create an enabling environment for PwDs to participate effectively in developing their society. The project follows a multifaceted approach for the full inclusion of PwDs in the job market. It contributes to building a just society that ensures equal rights and provides economic, social, and political opportunities especially for the underprivileged groups.

The WSIS Forum is co-organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), in close collaboration with all WSIS Action Line Facilitators/Co-Facilitators.

The Forum represents the world's largest annual gathering of the ‘ICT for development’ community. It provides a platform for multistakeholder cooperation, information exchange and implementation of the WSIS Action Lines to ensure that ICTs remain a key enabler in achieving the globally agreed SDGs.

The Forum encompasses special tracks that showcase the application of ICTs across specific demographics. This year’s special tracks are: ICTs and Youth; ICTs and Gender Mainstreaming; ICTs for Industry 4.0 and Emerging Technologies special track; ICTs for Well-being, Happiness and Peace; ICTs and Accessibility for Persons with Disabilities and Specific Needs; ICTs and Older Persons; ICTs and Indigenous Peoples and Cultures; ICTs for Developing and Least Developed Countries; and ICTs for Sport.
