Seventh Annual STI Forum Holds

The seventh annual Multi-Stakeholder Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation for the Sustainable Development Goals (STI Forum) is held on May 5-6, under the theme: “Science, technology and innovation for building back better from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) while advancing the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”.

The Forum is organized by the United Nations Interagency Task Team on STI for the SDGs (IATT), convened by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), and the 10-Member-Group of high-level representatives appointed by the Secretary-General.

The theme of the STI Forum is closely aligned with that of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF), to be held in July under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), but have an exclusive focus on the role and contributions of science, technology and innovation. The HLPF in 2022 will review in-depth SDG 4 on quality education, SDG 5 on gender equality, SDG 14 on life below water, SDG 15 on life on land, and SDG 17 on partnerships for the Goals. The upcoming HLPF will take into account the different and particular impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic across all SDGs and the integrated, indivisible and interlinked nature of the Goals.

UN DESA upholds the development pillar of the UN. The Department brings the global community together to work towards common solutions to the world’s most pressing problems and helps countries translate their global commitments into national action in the economic, social and environmental spheres.
