Egypt hosted the 16th edition of Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad (APIO) on May 28-29. APIO was organized online by the Regional Informatics Center (RIC) of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AAST) and under the auspice of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT).
APIO is an International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI)-like competition for delegations within the Asian and Western Pacific regions. The first competition was organized by the Australian IOI team in 2007. The eligible participants are the ones that are also eligible for the IOI 2022 Indonesia.
For the first time, Egypt hosted the competition as part of its preparations to organize and host IOI 2024. Last year, the Egyptian team, that participated in APIO, won two silver and one bronze medals.
This year, 54 countries, represented by 1,695 contestants, participated in the competition. Each country is allowed to participate with a team of up to 30 members, with the results calculated on an individual basis.
