Nitrous National Hackathon to Hold

The Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (TIEC) of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), CREATIVA Innovation Hubs and Project Nitrous- funded by Drosos Foundation- Switzerland and sponsored by Giza Systems  Education Systems- are co-organizing “Nitrous National Hackathon”, on June 26-30. The Hackathon is held at Project Nitrous’ premises in Cairo, Fab Lab Fayoum, Fab Lab Sohag, and CREATIVA Innovation Hubs in Sohag and Aswan.

The five-day hackathon helps to upskill and empower Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) by developing assistive tools. Volunteerism is open for university students and graduates to provide support to PwDs.

An online workshop on design thinking methodology will be held during the first two days. Participants will receive technical training on assistive technology, Nitrous catalog, and communication skills with PwDs, on the third day. Main hackathon activities will continue in a hybrid format during the last two days.

The “Nitrous National Hackathon” will be executed under the supervision of two main Nitrous teams, aiming to promote community engagement and provide technical support.

Meanwhile, CREATIVA Innovation Hubs will provide logistical support by providing 3D printers, computer numerical control (CNC), hand tools and equipment, and laser cutting machines necessary for the success of the event. Six team members from CREATIVA will receive training on the Nitrous project.

Project Nitrous Team is conducting the needs assessment calls for the applications of the beneficiaries and volunteers. Results of these calls and confirmed participants will be announced in the last week of June.
