The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat has visited Alexandria Governorate to open projects by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT). The projects reflect MCIT strategy and its tireless efforts to build Digital Egypt.

The program of the visit highlighted MCIT efforts in fostering digital capabilities for government employees and youth from the governorate. This is in addition to supporting the inclusion of persons with disabilities (PwDs) into society, as well as providing healthcare services to citizens in remote areas through telemedicine units.

Talaat held a meeting with the Governor of Alexandria Mohamed Elsherief at the governorate’s general bureau. They discussed projects including digital institutional development, information infrastructure development, and digital skills development programs for youth and employees in Alexandria.

The ICT Minister followed up on the project of installing fiber-optic cables to boost the Internet and discussed with the governor of Alexandria a plan to build cell towers to support mobile voice services.

The meeting focused on MCIT training program in Artificial Intelligence (AI), implemented in cooperation with the École Pour l'Informatique et les Techniques Avancées (EPITA). The ICT Minister listened to success stories of some of the program graduates, who shared their experiences, from participating in the program and obtaining certificates to joining the workforce in local and international companies.

In a similar vein, Talaat and Elsherief opened a new office of Vodafone Intelligent Solutions (VOIS), a subsidiary of Vodafone Group, in Alexandria. The new office provides 1,000 specialized job opportunities, enabling foreign markets and serving Vodafone’s overseas customers in the German and English languages.

As part of the opening ceremony, the ICT Minister witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) and VOIS on expanding IT services (ITS) and business process services (BPS) operations in Egypt.

Furthermore, Talaat and Elsherief opened three post offices in Alexandria: Al Saraya, Bolkly, and Smouha Post Offices. They were developed and equipped with the latest technological systems and solutions to provide all kinds of financial, postal, and governmental services to citizens.

The ICT Minister and Alexandria Governor visited the children’s university hospital in Smouha. The hospital has a telemedicine unit as part of the presidential telemedicine initiative.

The telemedicine system is implemented by MCIT, the Ministry of Health and Population, and the Ministry of Higher Education. It helps optimize and upgrade medical and healthcare services by employing ICT applications in the health sector. MCIT works to install and run telemedicine units in the designated hospitals to facilitate citizens’ access to services nationwide.

During the visit, the ICT Minister and Alexandria Governor witnessed a live demo where doctors at the hospital were connected to premature birth cases in the Red Sea Governorate, as part of the medical services provided to remote and underprivileged areas.
