Egypt, represented by the Egyptian Computer Emergency Readiness Team (EG-CERT) of the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA), has been elected as member of the Board of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation – Computer Emergency Response Team (OIC-CERT), beating out 53 other members.
The selection of EG-CERT was announced during the Regional Cybersecurity Week 2022, organized by the ITU Arab Regional Cybersecurity Center (ITU-ARCC), on November 6-9 in Muscat, Oman, under the theme “Cybersecurity Innovation and Industry Development.”
The Week was hosted by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology in Oman, through Oman National CERT (OCERT), and endorsed by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
EG-CERT participated in a number of events during the Regional Cybersecurity Week, including the 10th Arab Regional and OIC-CERT Cyber Drill - Applied Learning for Emergency Response Teams (ALERT), on November 6-7.
Around 20 CERTs from Arab and Islamic countries participated in the Drill. Having succeeded in six drills, EG-CERT ranked first among the participants.
The Drill targeted national and Arab CERTs, private CERTs and cyber security centers in key sectors. It was aimed at enhancing communication between participating CERTs and reducing incident response time, in addition to underscoring the significance of unifying efforts of regional CERTs and their role in reducing cyberattacks.
Moreover, EG-CERT participated in the 10th Regional Cybersecurity Summit, on November 8-9. The Summit discussed the best strategies for tackling cyber threats in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
