NAID Launches New Version of ‘Wasel’ App

The National Academy of Information Technology for Persons with Disabilities (NAID), affiliated to the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), has launched a new version of Wasel App.

Wasel is a mobile application that enables people with hearing impairment and communication difficulties to access several services, including ambulance, police emergency, firefighting, and electricity emergency, via free video calls. The app also provides simultaneous interpreting in the sign language, by highly experienced interpreters from the National Relay Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing. This is in addition to online form-filing services in line with Egypt’s vision for achieving digital transformation.

The new version of Wasel contains several user interface (UI) improvements and offers new services and video calls of higher quality.

MCIT launched the National Relay Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing during Cairo ICT 2019 within the framework of a presidential initiative for including and empowering persons with disabilities (PwDs) through ICT. The Center is one of a kind in the Arab World, the Middle East, and Africa. It provides complete technological solutions, serving as a call center that connects persons with hearing and speech impairments with emergency services.
