The National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) has met the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems (QMS) requirements for regulating telecommunication services in the Egyptian market, for the second year in a row. NTRA received its first ISO 9001 QMS certification in December 2021.
The assessment has been conducted by the Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand (JAS-ANZ), one of the world’s top accreditation bodies, and NTRA performance has been recognized by MDY for Management Services and Training.
This milestone marks the culmination of NTRA efforts in meeting international standards in QMS, digital transformation, and organizational approaches to governing telecommunications services offered by the licensed operators in the Egyptian market. Such efforts help attract investments in an ideal competitive environment in line with international standards and improve the governance of telecommunications services.
It is worth mentioning that NTRA has reached several milestones over the past few years. Its interactive mobile application, My NTRA, was selected as one of the Champion Projects of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Prizes 2022, Category 7 — AL C7. ICT applications: benefits in all aspects of life — e-government. The app beat out 966 projects.
NTRA also moved up 54 spots on the ICT Regulatory Tracker of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), ranking 41st among 193 countries in 2020, up from 95th in 2019. Moreover, the Authority advanced 43 spots on the GSMA Mobile Money Regulatory Index 2020, to rank 36th among 90 countries adopting this type of service, after occupying the 79th place in 2019.
