The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Digital Economy Ministerial Meeting was held on December 13-15 in Gran Canaria, Spain, under the theme “Driving long-term recovery and economic growth by building a trusted, sustainable, and inclusive digital future.” Ministers and government officials from 20 countries participated in the Meeting.
OECD Digital Economy Ministerial Meeting addressed a number of topics, including digital enablers of the global economy, building better societies, putting people first in digital transformation, and harnessing the power of AI and emerging technologies.
The ICT Minister Amr Talaat participated in the Ministerial Meeting. He delivered a speech during a panel discussion titled “The OECD AI Principles – impact on the global policy landscape.”
Talaat underlined Egypt’s keenness to cooperate with the international community in implementing the National AI Strategy. He added that the state collaborates with OECD and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and chairs the Arab Working Group and African Working Group on AI to transfer the Egyptian experience and develop regional visions regarding AI policies.
In his speech, Talaat showcased the Egyptian experience in AI and highlighted the efforts made to implement the National AI Strategy in coordination with concerned authorities through the National AI Council, chaired by MCIT.
He added that Egypt adopted the OECD Recommendation on AI and translated a copy of it into Arabic to promote the regional dimension. Egypt also cooperates with OECD to develop the AI strategy through Egypt-OECD Country Programme.
