ICT Minister Visit to India


The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat, heading an Egyptian delegation, visited India on January 9-13. He met with Indian government officials and CEOs of major ICT companies to discuss enhancing cooperation and investment in several areas. These included BPO and offshoring, digital transformation, capacity-building, digital innovation and entrepreneurship, electronics design and manufacturing, and the Global Information Infrastructure (GII).

The visit was part of the efforts made by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) to establish international partnerships to transfer knowledge, develop the IT industry, achieve digital transformation, and promote local manufacturing.

Talaat met with Union Minister for Railways, Communications, Electronics and Information Technology in India Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, in New Delhi. They discussed enhancing cooperation between Egypt and India in ICT fields, most notably digital transformation, GII, and ICT skill development.

The ICT Minister also held a meeting with officials from members of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), in New Delhi. He presented the investment opportunities and competitive advantages in the Egyptian ICT sector. The two sides discussed attracting Indian investments to Egypt’s ICT sector and establishing strong partnerships between Egyptian and Indian ICT companies.

In addition, Talaat met with the Global Head for Corporate Affairs at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) Ranjeet Goswami. They delved into the most prominent projects implemented in Egypt to achieve digital transformation and the efforts made to grow the offshoring industry.

Moreover, the ICT Minister met with the Director General of the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) Madan Mohan Tripathi, in New Delhi. They explored opportunities of cooperation in building capacity in ICT, electronics design, and AI.

Talaat also met with the Managing Director at Micromax Informatics Ltd Vikas Jain, and Director of Play Design Labs Rohan Agarwal. They discussed the two companies’ expansion plans in Egypt, the Middle East and Africa and means to increase investments in electronics manufacturing.

Furthermore, the ICT Minister met with Founder and Global Head of Innovation Think Tank (ITT) of Siemens Healthineers Sultan Haider. They discussed enhancing cooperation in supporting digital innovation and entrepreneurship, building digital capabilities, and using modern technologies to develop innovative technological solutions. The ICT Minister and his accompanying delegation took a tour of ITT; they visited ITT Lab and explored the latest sustainable technologies and innovative solutions it offers.

Talaat also met with the Co-Founder, CEO and Managing Director of Tejas Networks Sanjay Nayak, in New Delhi, to discuss enhancing cooperation in building wired and wireless networks to cover the needs of local, Arab and African markets.

Additionally, the ICT Minister and the Egyptian delegation met with Head of Africa and Middle East International Business at the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) Nehal Shah. They discussed the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) system and proposed areas of cooperation.

Talaat met with Managing Director and CEO of Tech Mahindra CP Gurnani, and officials from the company. They discussed Egypt’s efforts to develop the outsourcing industry and the company’s future plans.

In a similar vein, the ICT Minister held an extensive meeting with officials from major Indian ICT companies during a business event organized by the Egyptian Commercial Representation in India, in coordination with CII, in Bengaluru.

Moreover, Talaat met with officials from Wipro, headed by CEO of the APMEA (Asia Pacific, India, Middle East and Africa) Strategic Market Unit Anis Chenchah, to discuss Digital Egypt projects and opportunities of cooperation with Wipro, especially with the availability of a highly-qualified ICT talent pool.

He held a meeting with Global Head, Consulting and Digital Services at Tech Mahindra Padma Parthasarathy; and Chief Delivery Officer and Global Head, Infrastructure and Cloud Services Sudhir Nair. They addressed Tech Mahindra’s solutions and technologies such as Metaverse, and explored the company’s expansion plans in Egypt.

The ICT Minister and his accompanying delegation also met with the Managing Partner, Global Delivery at IBM Consulting Amit Sharma and Director of IBM Client Experience Center Arnab Saha. They discussed plans to expand in IBM global delivery business from Cairo.

In addition, the ICT Minister met with the Director of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi Rangan Banerjee, in New Delhi to exchange expertise and establish international partnerships in preparing training programs and creating a talent pool in ICT. He also met with Vice President and Head of Global Trade Development at the National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) Shivendra Singh and officials from NASSCOM members.

In a similar vein, the ICT Minister and the Egyptian delegation visited the Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) HQ in Delhi. He met with STPI Director General Arvind Kumar to enhance cooperation in fostering software development, innovation, R&D, and start-ups.

Talaat met with Chief Strategy Officer Ramya Mohan and officials from Cyient. They discussed enhancing cooperation in electronics and embedded systems and the possibility to host an engineering global center in Egypt. He also met with Vice President and General Manager - ASIC at eInfochips Mangesh Kulkarni to discuss enhancing cooperation in R&D in fabless semiconductor design (Digital IC design services / embedded systems), and expanding eInfochips’ business in Egypt.

Furthermore, the ICT Minister visited CtrlS Datacenters in Bengaluru. He met with CEO Sridhar Pinnapureddy and officials from the company to discuss enhancing cooperation in data centers and cloud computing.

Talaat and his accompanying delegation met with Vice President of GlobalLogic Suresh Khosla and officials from the company. They discussed opportunities of cooperation in Egypt in capacity-building as well as Digital Egypt projects.

Concluding his meetings, the ICT Minister and his accompanying delegation met with officials from Capgemini. He met with the CEO of Capgemini in India Ashwin Yardi; Engagement Director and Vice President Narayan Prasad, and several officials. They discussed the company’s activities in ER&D and expansion plans in Egypt.
