Egypt Post Receives ‘EDGE Certificate’ for Aswan Historical Post Office

Egypt Post has received the Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies (EDGE) Certificate by the Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI), in cooperation with the International Finance Corporation (IFC). The Certificate has been received for achieving excellence in designing and developing Aswan historical Post Office capitalizing on the best sustainability, environment protection, and energy saving practices.

Achieving EDGE Certificate is the culmination of Egypt Post’s huge efforts in overcoming and reducing the impact of climate change and contributing to the transition to a green economy. To that end, Egypt Post has been employing the latest sustainable architecture systems aimed at mitigating negative impacts and achieving optimal resource and energy utilization to preserve the environment in line with the initiative of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) on reducing the postal sector's carbon footprint.

Egypt Post received the Certificate after the Aswan Post Office and building passed several assessments on reducing carbon emissions mid-design and post-implementation. The building achieved 33% energy savings, 25% water savings, and 52% less embodied energy in materials.

Aswan Post Office was renovated and developed, with its historical character preserved. In the revamping process, Egypt Post adopted eco-friendly technology and modern design elements so as to reflect uniqueness, authenticity, and modernity.

EDGE is a green building certification system focused on making buildings more resource-efficient. It enables developers and builders to quickly identify the most cost-effective strategies to reduce energy use, water use and embodied energy in materials. EDGE certification is administered by GBCI in over 160 countries.
