MCIT Holds Digital Citizenship, Online Safety Training in Minya

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and Misr Public Library have co-organized training in digital citizenship and online safety, in Minya Governorate. The training was held within Safer Internet Day (SID) framework and as part of the Digital Citizenship Initiative.
The training was aimed at raising awareness of the fundamentals of digital citizenship. Real-life applications of digital citizenship skills were also presented during the training.
The digital citizenship training was part of MCIT efforts in promoting a strong digital safety culture in a way that helps fulfill sustainable development and achieve the transition to a digital society.
MCIT launched the Digital Citizenship initiative to raise citizens’ awareness of the rights, responsibilities, and opportunities of living, learning, and working in an interconnected digital world in safe, legal, and ethical ways. Objectives of the initiative include providing knowledge and reliable content on digital citizenship concepts, skills, and inspirational models, and helping people apply digital citizenship skills through specialized training and online counseling services.
The initiative also aims to increase local communities’ awareness of Internet dangers, introduce cybersecurity tools and protection and support channels, and establish national and international partnerships to exchange knowledge and expertise.
Safer Internet Day is celebrated worldwide under the theme, "Together for A Better Internet." The campaign was first launched in 2004. Its objectives include promoting the safe and positive use of digital technology for young generations, protecting children and adolescents on the Internet, raising awareness of Internet dangers, especially on social media, and preventing cyberviolence and cyberbullying. SID also aims to promote the use of online safety and data and privacy protection tools and identify people’s role in creating safe cyberspace.
